Raamses is one of the two treasure cities, the other being Pithom, that the Israelites were forced to build for Pharaoh during their slavery.[1] It is also the name of the surrounding district.[2] Raamses is the more distinct of the two treasure cities because it is later mentioned as the departure point for the Israelites.[3] Although scholars feel like they have an idea as to its general location, no one has claimed to have discovered it. Raamses is also significant because it is possible that it carries the same name as its founder, Ramses II. [1]
